Psychology Services During the COVID-19 Pandemic

Telehealth services for psychology are now available


Clients now have the option to receive their ten (per calendar year) mental health care plan sessions by teleconference or phone call. To access these sessions you will require a Better Access Mental Health Care Plan referral from your GP.  If you already have a referral, you do not need to obtain a new one to access care via telehealth.


Most private health insurers also now offer rebates for telehealth psychology. Please check with your insurer if you plan to claim on health insurance. If you are able to access sessions via telehealth, Janet encourages this in the interest of supporting physical distancing measures that have been put in place to protect the broader community.  Some clients may find telehealth difficult to manage, or may not have access to the technology or private space necessary.


Telehealth Sessions

There are a few factors to consider if you choose telehealth psychology services:

  • If using a video connection you will need a mobile phone, tablet or computer connected to the internet
  • Please be mindful of data costs if you don't have access to a wifi connection, or if your data usage is limited
  • Importantly, you will need a private space where you can sit comfortably for the duration of the session, preferably without interruption
  • If you would prefer not to attend the clinic but are not able to use videoconferencing, it is also an option to have your sessions delivered by phone call (this is also classed as telehealth)
  • Telehealth sessions are bulk-billed for individuals holding concession and pension cards and those who are in the at risk category for COVID-19 (Click here to see if you are considered to be at risk)


Clinic Sessions

As psychology is considered an essential service, I will continue practicing from the clinic.  Please note the following changes:

  • Clients attending the clinic are encouraged to have a 'no touch visit'
  • Please wait in your car until I open the clinic door for you (you will be called in by text message)
  • Pay by bank transfer rather than EFTPOS 
  • Chairs are cleaned between sessions and there is increased distance between seating in the consulting room
  • Please bring your own water bottle
  • If you have any cold or flu like symptoms or have had contact with a suspected case of COVID-19, please contact me and do not attend the clinic. I recommend all clients who are vulnerable to COVID-19 or are at greater risk have their sessions via telehealth.

  • Sessions conducted at the clinic will be charged at the usual session rate and you will receive your medicare rebate as usual. If you are experiencing financial hardship, please contact me to discuss your fees.
